Why You Need, To Read It ?

      When you buy a new smartphone or any storage device ( Memory Card, Hard-Disc, Pen-drive etc. ) . You will definitely notice about its storage ( for example it is 16 GB ) But when we attach it with your device, we found it less ( Approx. 14.9 GB )

• Are these companies making fraud to us ?

 Lets Find Out :- 

     To understand this problem we have to learn about Memory Unit.

Memory Unit :-

       When you buy a new storage device ( Phone or Memory Card ) . How you know about its memory status/limit ?

Manufactures mention the storage capacity ( 4, 6, 8, 16 GB etc.) on the device

You can find out the storage capacity through memory units .

1Bit                 =        Binary Digit ( 0 & 1 )

8Bit                 =        1 Byte

1024 Bytes    =        1 KB  ( Kilo Byte )

1024 KB         =        1 MB ( Mega Byte )

1024 MB        =        1 GB  ( Giga Byte ) 

1024 GB         =        1 TB  ( Tera Byte )  

1024 TB         =        1 PB  ( Peta Byte )

1024 PB         =        1 EB  ( Exa Byte )

1024 EB         =        1 ZB  ( Zetta Byte )

1024 ZB         =        1 YB  ( Yotta Byte )

1024 YB         =        1 Bronto Byte

1024 Bronto Byte   =      Geop Byte

Smallest unit of memory is Bit

After that Byte, KB, MB, GB and so on .

Difference b/w memory standards-

       computers measure memory through their own standards.

For computers-

                    1GB  =  1024 MB

BUT

For storage device manufacturer.

                    1 GB  =  1000 MB

So, for this reason , you see less storage in your device.

Let's take an example

        Take a 16 GB card, computer will understand it

               1 GB =1024 MB

Convert 1 GB into Bytes 

               1 GB  = 1,073,741,824 Bytes

For 16 GB 

              16 GB = 17, 179, 869, 184 Bytes

But 

    For manufacturer of storage device 

                1 GB = 1000 MB 

In Bytes

                1 GB = 1000, 000, 000

For 16 GB 

               16 GB =16000, 000, 000

If we convert memory unit into GB 

Then the size of memory is 14.9 GB Approx.

       So, it create a big difference , computer shows you the actual storage provided by the manufacturer.

  So, manufacture provides you 14.9 GB instead of 16 GB . 

Memory Status in Phones :-

      In your phone you find much less space then a memory card or a pen-drive

There are two main reasons -

1. Storage device manufacturer already provide less storage due to above reason.

2. Storage space become less due to inbuilt apps & operating system.
